THE STORY

A little closer to the heart of it.

Two Stage Managers guide the audience between Mary and Joseph's journey, Herod's court, the shepherds' hillside and the crowded entrance to Bethlehem. A young shepherd recognizes that God's sign is meant for ordinary people too. A census clerk must decide whether work will keep him from the miracle nearby.

Who's at the centre?

The Stage Managers guide the story. The Young Shepherd and Census Clerk have recurring personal journeys, alongside Mary, Joseph, Herod and the Kings.

How can the speaking roles flex?

Use one narrator or distribute the Stage Manager passages among a team. Numbered Shepherd, King and Angel speeches can move among more or fewer speakers. Preserve the Young Shepherd's discoveries and the Clerk's final decision.

Room for the rest of the group.

Older and younger Angels take part, including a dance. Add non-speaking shepherds or worshippers around the main scenes.

Bringing it to life.

The script alternates main-stage narration with side-stage scenes. A projected star is a recurring visual device.
